My email was recently broken into by someone looking for any information they could find about myself, my friends, and my boyfriend that could be used against me. Its not just an invasion of privacy, its also quite dangerous as they have threatened to call the police and make up a story to get me arrested or at the very least questioned. Is there anything that can be done about this?
Can legal action be taken against someone who breaks into another's email looking for personal information?
sorry the answere on that is ist too HARD to prove...
Reply:Take a copy of everything you have to your local district attorney. Breaking into a computer by anyone but the very very best of hackers will leave a trail. A trail that can be followed by a computer forensic person.
Good luck, I hope you can nail this guy/gal.
Reply:Contact your local courthouse and ask for the prosecutors office and see what they think can be done.
Reply:Good luck proving it. That is why you shouldn't leave your personal information in an accessible place. How did this person "break in", did they know your password or did they literally hack into your email? Hacking will be at least traceable, if you have the computer they used to do it with. But in order to get teh computer seized for evidence, you'll have to have some other evidence that they actually did this and are menacing you about it.
Reply:yes but you its very unlikely that you can find the person who is doing this to you
but under the Data Misuse Act , any unauthorised access to personal information of people in computers is illegal and the people who do this can actually get arrested
if it gets really serious i definetely recommend you to contact with the police before it gets any worse ! it may be a joke from somebody but who knows? it can also be from a criminal !
